How Long Does It Take to Do Micro Braids?

Micro Braids, also known as mini braids or invisible braids, is a popular hairstyle among black women and men as well. The finished product is beautiful, attractive and easy to maintain. However, the process takes several hours to complete, and so it can be very helpful if you have a friend or someone to help you do your braids. Before you do micro braids, you should carefully consider whether your hair is healthy enough for the braids as micro braids can to some extent damage your hair. But this is not the key factor that prevents most people doing this hairstyle. I think many beautiful women would love to get micro braids, but fear the thought of sitting in chair for hours. So how long on average do micro braids take?

How Long Does It Take to Do Micro Braids

Generally speaking, before braiding your hair, you should find a comb with sectioning tool. First of all, section off a 1/4 inch section of hair at the nape of your neck for braiding. Then use your sectioning tool to create the layer at the nape of your neck. Clip the rest of your hair up so that it stays out of your way while you braid. You will put braids in this section of your hair first, and then section off another 1/4 inch above the layer at the nape of your neck and braid it.

In order to get a weave braid, you should firstly separate the hair into 3 equal strands and braid the left strand over the center strand, then right strand over center strand all the way down the hair. Pull your hair horizontally as you go to ensure the braids are secure and to keep the hair from slipping. But do not pull so tight that it strains at your scalp. Your head should not be in pain from the braids. This is the main process that consumes time most.

Towards the end of the braid, hair may be in short supply, and strands will often become very thin. Depending on your preferences, stop braiding or move some hair from a larger strand to the thin strand. Then wrap a small elastic hair tie around the end of the braid several times until it is snug. And this is the last procedure which costs time not so much if a few stylists work at the same time. Finally, repeat the process by section until your whole head is braided.

So under normal conditions, the time you need to do this hairstyle depends on whether you have an average or bigger head than average size, on the desired braid length (braiding to the end of the added hair, or to the end of your own hair, or only a few inches in length). Additional factors to consider are the size of the sections: small, mini or medium micro braids. While, it also depends on persons who braid your hair and how many persons doing it at the same time. Given all those variables, the average time it takes to do micro braids would be 6 to 12 hours. Although it is a little longer for most people, everything will be rewarded. Think about the beautiful hairstyle, the result is worth the effort.
